The Williamsburg Recreation Department will host an Introduction to Fishing Course on Saturday, March 8, from 10 a.m.-noon at Waller Mill Park. The free class is open to kids ages 6-12. All kids will have a chance to fish. Parents or other fishermen interested in assisting with the program can sign up to volunteer.

March  3,2012- Let’s Go Fishing! 10 a.m. to noon – Conservation Police Officer George Wilson, Va Dept of Game & Inland Fisheries, will lead a program to the floating dock to talk about the fine art of fishing.

Directions • Exit Col Pkwy at Queen’s Lake, turn right. Turn on Lakeshead Dr. (Look for sign.) • From Peninsula: Exit I-64 at Rt. 199 toward Jamestown. Exit Rt. 143W. Right on Penniman Rd., left on Hubbard Ln. Right on Lakeshead Rd., follow to Park.

You’ll find great fishing in three areas of the park. Freshwater anglers will find bluegill and largemouth bass in Woodstock Pond. A Virginia fishing license is required. Boats are available seasonally for rent on pond. Only rental boats are allowed on the pond. The York River, where catfish, spot, croaker, striper and crabs are plentiful, is accessed at Croaker Landing. Taskinas Creek, which has catfish and white perch, requires either a valid saltwater or freshwater Virginia fishing license. Motorboats are allowed only on the river. Rental boats have no motors.

Those fishing from boats and the shore must have a Virginia saltwater fishing license. You can buy an annual pass for parking, boat launching and pier fishing at the park or by calling 1-800-933-PARK. Parking and launch-fishing pier fees are required at all times. Croaker Landing is open from 6 A.M. to dusk May 1st through Labor Day and 8 A.M to dusk Labor Day through May 1st.

Fishing Woodstock Pond
