Yorktown Sailing Charters: Schooner Alliance

imageSail into history aboard Yorktown’s 105’ tall ship. Concessions available for purchase. Offers daily sails and sunset sails from Riverwalk Landing pier.

The Serenity is owned and operated by Greg and Laura Lohse of Yorktown Sailing Charters. The Lohses purchased Serenity in 2000 in North Carolina where she had sat idle for years and was in need of a major refit. Greg and Laura spent the next few years lovingly restoring her to the fine vessel she is today. Captain Greg is a master carpenter and rebuilt all the woodwork aboard the vessel. They gutted the interior and rebuilt her from inside out.

Serenity was designed by Tom Colvin who for many years owned a boat yard on the East River in Miles VA.   Tom Colvin also designed the schooner Alliance. Serenity was designed as a cargo schooner and had a large cargo hold in the center when the Lohses purchase her. They turned the cargo hold into a master stateroom and refitted her from a cargo schooner to a passenger vessel.

Greg and Laura have sailed Serenity as far as the Cayman Islands to participate in Tall Ship Festivals. They have also taken her throughout the Great Lakes as far as Chicago and all along the Eastern Seaboard from Nova Scotia to Florida.   Serenity has won numerous Tall Ship Races including the America Sail Race in Beaufort North Carolina in 2006. She has raced in the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race and also participates in the Hampton Blackbeard Festival every year reenacting the battle of Ocracoke.

For those who love history, yearn for romance, or have dreamed of experiencing a true sailing adventure, your ship has just come in!
